The Use of Intravenous Iodine in Pyæmia

The patient, I. B., a Hindu male, aged 27 years, is by occupation a muleteer in the Falam, Chin Hills. He was quite well up to the 31st January, 1924. On the 1st February, 1924, he felt giddy, had a rigor followed by fever and pains all over the body. He had a mark on tJie third knuckle of his right hand which he stated was caused by a prick from a thorn, whilst collecting grass in the jungle three days previous to onset of the disease. This got inflamed and his hand was bad while in hospital, but he did not refer to the part as he was too ill to trouble about it, not attributing any importance whatsoever to such a seemingly slight complaint. The patient ran an irregular temperature reaching 101? in the evenings. He had swellings above the left knee on its outer side, the right elbow on its inner side, the right hip, and the upper part of the right side of the chest. He stated it hurt him to breathe.
